Our weekend in pictures

We had a busy but great weekend. Friday was my sister’s 20th birthday so we took the girls to see Tangled. Kiera slept through the whole thing and Zoey made it through most of the movie but melted down with 15 minutes to go. Gene took her out. To be fair, it was dinner time and she was refusing the snacks we brought so I know she was just hungry. Saturday night we took our friend Malinda out for a birthday dinner (her birthday was also on Friday!) and watched The IT Crowd Season 3 (hilarious!). Today was a day of laundry and hanging out around the house. We had $10 for Kohl’s that expired today so we went and grabbed a few things.

Here are some photos from our weekend:

Family-0796

My family. Love these guys!!

Kiera-0806

My beautiful little potsticker. Oh she is just precious!

Zoey-0823

Zoey helped me do dishes (aka play in the BUBBLES!) this afternoon. I taught her how to make Bubble Beards and she thought that was pretty hilarious.

The gift that keeps on giving

My Mom is the best when it comes to holiday gifts and goodie bags. We’ve always received little goodie bags for Valentine’s Day and Halloween and our Easter baskets are always full of fun little tidbits. She really knows how to make each holiday a little extra special!

Now that she has Grandchildren, she can have even more fun doing this. So, for Valentine’s Day this year, Zoey got a little basket with goodies in it and one of the items in the basket was this plastic heart shaped container of M&Ms. This was the very first time Zoey had ever tried an M&M and needless to say, she loves them!

Now, there is no way I was going to let her have the entire bag of M&Ms. So, Gene has started putting two M&Ms in the heart container and then hiding it somewhere in the living room amongst her toys every evening after she has gone to bed. So when she is playing the next day and stumbles across it, it is a HUGE surprise!

Zoey-0760

This morning it was sitting on top of her play kitchen and it didn’t take her long to find it. “Oooooh!!” she exlcaimed as she found it. She grabbed it and ran to me, “Peeeeeasee!” meaning that she wanted me to open it for her. I told her she knew how to open it herself and so she climbed up on to the sofa with me.

Zoey-0781

She opened it up, knowing what was going to be in it but still surprised nonetheless. Oh, to be a kid again!

Zoey-0782

She has this bad habit of holding the two M&Ms in her hands for a long time, so we’ve banned the blue ones. Blue M&Ms melting in a toddler’s hand means blue mess EVERYWHERE. Dear M&Ms, YES THEY DO MELT IN YOUR HAND. STOP LYING.

Zoey-0765

Needless to say, Zoey was so happy to get her little surprise this morning. I said “Is there a surprise in there?” and she said “Piiiiiies?” So cute! Honestly, I am jealous that she can be so excited over two tiny M&Ms. If it was me, I’d be wondering where the rest of the bag was!

Quiet Time

Here it is 10 PM on a Sunday night and I’m actually enjoying some quiet time alone. I’m sitting on the sofa in a house that is only lit by Forrest Gump on the TV and the screen of my Macbook. There are soft baby breaths coming from the cute little munchkin asleep on the boppy next to me. My husband is asleep in bed with a headache and Zoey has been in bed for two hours already. The dryer is working on my last load of the night and I’m feeling so accomplished.

I changed our bed linens and the dirty ones are in the dryer as I type. Does anyone else find changing bed linens a big chore? It feels like SO much work. I just love slipping into bed on clean bed linens though. I always make an effort to shower RIGHT before bed on Clean Linens Night. I also cleaned/dried/put away our laundry and I cleaned out a big portion of my clothes and put a bunch away to donate and trashed some others. I’ve just done a lot of picking up crap all over the house tonight and that alone feels like a BIG chore.

Having time to myself is something I am slowly but surely working on. I haven’t talked about it but I had a panic attack, my first one ever, a couple of weeks ago and it really scared me. I think all of the mess I’ve dealt with ever since Kiera’s crazy birth had finally caught up with me. It’s amazing how much better I am feeling these days, both physically and mentally but I have caught myself with early signs of a panic attack coming on and have to work hard and focus to get control. Editing and posting pictures of my girls is something that ALWAYS puts a huge smile on my face.

Today we just hung out around the house, didn’t do anything big. We took the girls outside for a short while but it was just too chilly to stay out long. I took a few snap shots of the girls.. I just love them so much! Every single day I catch myself staring at them and admiring their beauty. Every single little feature.

Zoey’s big, almond eyes. Her pouty and pink lips that pucker so perfectly that I find myself begging her for kisses on a daily basis. Her cute little nose and puffy cheeks. Her short and stubby fingers and her short and chubby (and I mean CHUBBY!) feet. Her stubby and crooked toes (thank Grandma for that one!). I cannot get over how absolutely perfect she is.

Kiera’s small and dark almond eyes. She looks at me with those glossy eyes and I am lost in love. Her flat nose, just like Daddy’s. Her cheeks are most definitely puffy and I love to kiss them. She has a wider mouth with smaller lips that sit right on top of the cutest little indented chin I’ve ever seen. Right below her chin is another chin, which I love JUST as much as the first one! Her hairy ears just make me giggle and I often find myself stroking them. She is perfect in every way.

These are my girls and I can’t imagine my life ANY other way. I cannot believe how lucky and blessed I am to be THEIR Mama.

Kiera-0622

wait, i have kidS now?

I find myself saying “my daughter” in conversation and then correcting mid-sentence to be more descriptive, “my older daughter” or “my younger daughter.” So weird. The other day, my husband messaged me with “How are the kids?” and it was SO strange to read that. It’ll sink in over time, I’m sure.. but for now I’ll just do double takes every time we refer to our offspring in the plural form.

Zoey-0316

Kiera is doing quite well. Tummy issues seem to be under control. She’s pooping and tooting regularly (you’re welcome!) and we’ve got her fussy time nailed down to 9-12 PM. The last couple of nights have been a lot better.. I’ve realized she needs to eat a LOT in the evenings and we haven’t had screaming episodes the last few nights. Thankfully! I think she was over tired and hungry and I think really paying attention to her signs of tiredness and hunger are helping keep McScreamy at bay.

She was awake for an hour twice already today so I am so happy about that! I love looking at her beautiful eyes and watching her look around. She is absolutely precious.

Zoey-0312

Kiera likes the swing! Woohoo! That means our money spent on a swing didn’t go to total waste (or was that Grandma’s money? hee hee). Zoey hated it and would cry every time we put her in it and even to this day, she only likes the swings at the park in moderation. Kiera? She sleeps in this swing for HOURS! It’s so sweet and so adorable, too.

Zoey-0307

Zoey is doing wonderful. A thriving 22 month old. We’re nearing her 2nd birthday and it blows my mind that she could possibly be two years old. Blows my mind and scares me about what is to come! She is full of life. Little Miss Bossy is her newest nickname.

Zoey-0272

She LOVES nanas and bapples! Even the fake toy varieties. She isn’t a real girly girl. I honestly don’t know if I can ever even imagine her playing dress up but I sure can hope she does. She loves to chase Daddy around the house, she loves to be thrown into the air, she loves to be silly, she loves to DRIVE US CRAZY! She is one amazing kid and as she gets older, it gets more and more fun (and frustrating)!

zoey elise, 22 months

My baby girl.. my first born.. my teeny tiny little angel is already 22 months old! How did time go by so quickly?

Zoey-0180

This girl. She is a tornado of energy. She is constantly moving! I used to say she was such a chilled out and laid back little girl but in the last few months, she has turned into quite the opposite of that. Her favorite toy is the Magnadoodle and if you came over to our house, she would bring it to you, chanting “Peeeeeeasssee, peeeeeeassseeee” while handing you the pen. Begging, politely, for you to draw something. Then she would erase what you are in the MIDDLE OF DRAWING and laugh maniacally, because it’s just That Hilarious. She would really love it if you would draw a banana, a cookie and an apple… three things she will gladly shout out as soon as she recognized them “NANA!” “CHOO-CHEE!” and “BAPPLE!”

Zoey-0183

If you let her watch herself on your iPhone camera, she will perform some crazy stunts, laugh hysterically, talk and put on quite a show for you (as seen above). She loves her Daddy and since he has been home for almost a month now since Kiera was born, she has really been soaking up her Daddy Time. She is the definition of a Daddy’s Girl, in fact. She has more meltdowns, more tantrums and acts generally more needy and whiny around him but if he is around, she is GLUED to him. He is a pretty fun guy, after all, so who can blame her. He goes back to work next week and I’m interested to see how she does when it is just us girls at home.

Zoey-0181

She is starting to string more than one word together and her vocabulary is picking up a lot lately. She still babbles endlessly in her own language but every now and then we can recognize words. If you say “Ow” when you stub your toe, she will look at you very concerned and say “Uh oh! You okay?” It is THE cutest thing ever! She loves “Deetza!” (pizza) and cheese. She says “Peeeeeeeease” for everything and throws in a “Tain-doo” (Thank you) for good measure occasionally. She has been in a big girl bed (twin bed on the floor with a bed rail) for a couple of months now and does great.

She had her first time out a few days ago and had another one today. I hate it, it breaks my heart and really hurts to hear her get so upset but I know it’s for the best. She has started a new thing where when throwing an epic (and I mean EPIC) tantrum, she will hit. Hitting is NOT OK. I know this is just how she is expressing her frustration and anger but she can’t go to school in a few years thinking that it’s ok to just hit people when she gets mad. So time out it is.. Hopefully we’ll see some results. I hear 3 is worse than 2 and we aren’t even to 2 yet.. Hoo boy!

Never a dull moment with Zoey around, that is for sure! I love my little peanut so much, even if she isn’t so “little” anymore. She is a beautiful, amazing little person that completely amazes me on a daily basis. I love how I can go from almost pulling my hair out to laughing hysterically in just a 5 minute period. I am so thankful and so blessed to be this little girl’s Mommy!

kiera claire, two weeks

I know I was absolutely astounded by how fast time was flying when Zoey turned two weeks old and this time is no different, perhaps even more shocking. It feels like the days and nights are flying by at an alarming rate. Between being stuck in the house due to the crazy Blizzard we just had two days ago and learning to be parents to a 21 month old AND a newborn, the days are simply slipping between our fingers.

Kiera Day 14-0806

Zoey is doing great at adjusting to being a big sister. The first 2-3 days home were very rough. Aunt Malinda (an honorary Aunt, of course) and Grandma had basically been taking care of her for an entire week and she had only briefly seen me in the hospital one day out of that whole week. Daddy was popping in and out of the house and I think the huge disruption in her normal routine caused her attitude to get all kinds of out of control! Add in the fact that we brought home a newborn and you can imagine how much fun we had those first few days.

She hasn’t cared all too much for the baby until the last couple of days. She actually touched her hair yesterday and I was absolutely amazed because up until then, she wouldn’t get too close to her. She has also started playing with her baby dolls more, saying “baby” and feeding them bottles, wrapping blankets around them, etc. It’s really adorable! She still doesn’t pay too much attention to Kiera but she is slowly starting to get there. She had some MAJOR jeaousy issues with Gene and the baby those first few days but has since gotten over it. We’re back into our routine here and it is amazing how as soon as we got that back in place, she quickly got back to her normal self and attitude. Instead of ALL DAY tantrums, we’re back to the occasional ones throughout the day.

Kiera Day 14-0842

Kiera is doing great! It’s so crazy that she was born at 34 weeks and is so much bigger than Zoey was (born at 36 weeks). She isn’t any chubbier though, which is odd too! If anything, Kiera is actually a lot skinnier than Zoey was. She is the exact same length Zoey was (18.5 inches) and her legs, arms, hands and feet are long and skinny. I’m guessing most of her weight is in her stomach and her big head! Looking back at Zoey’s baby pictures, she had a lot more chub in her legs, feet, hands and arms than Kiera does.

Sleep schedule is going okay. We’re setting the timer, just like we did with Zoey, to wake this little girl up and feed her every 2 hours. One major difference is that when we get her up, she eats, even if she stays asleep, which makes it a LOT easier on us. We usually spend a good 45 minutes to an hour feeding and changing her and then set the timer for 2 hours and do that whole routine over again. In the last day or two, she is starting to wake up on her own a little and fuss when she is hungry, which is making it a little easier as well. She is currently eating about 2oz per feeding, sometimes a tiny bit less and sometimes a tiny bit more. She did 3oz all day yesterday but then threw up a couple of times, I think from over eating, so we took it back down to 2oz for now. Oh the guessing with a newborn. Even if you’ve already done it before!

I love smelling Kiera’s head. Holding her in my arms. Staring at her pretty face or letting her wrap her long, skinny fingers around my pinky. I love her wandering, glistening eyes. She is beautiful and amazing, the perfect addition to our family.

I’m almost done with my birth story and I’ll post that as soon as I fine tune it and feel like it’s ready. There is SO much to cover and it’s a jumbled mix of stuff. Which is pretty much how that entire week in the hospital felt, jumbled. I typed up a really good portion of it the other night and I think I only cried three separate times. Not happy tears, either. What a mess!

listed

  • Met the lactation consultant in the NICU early this morning. She helped me learn how to hold Kiera and little sister latched right on. She latched a few different times and suckled but then would fall asleep. I’m so proud of her! We did some “kangaroo care” and bottle fed. She did good all day and drank from bottles like a big girl.
  • My OB came by this morning and discharged me. Gave me my 5 prescriptions and the nurse came by to discuss my discharge and informed me that since Kiera was still in the NICU I could “room in” for free as long as they weren’t too busy and had a room available.
  • gene had a blow out tire on the way home today. It has been a seriously stressful situation.

Well I’d write more but my phone doesn’t want me to write this apparently. One of these days I’ll get home and life will resume.
