Frozen Planet Geek!

About to settle down with some Frozen Planet and a beer. I am loving the Frozen Planet series on the Discovery channel. I never really watched the Planet Earth series, but now I kind of want to check it out. Why are the Blu-Ray sets so ding dang expensive?!

Today I set up a small kiddie pool in the back yard, I filled the water table up and I took the lid off of the sand box. We let the girls free and they had a blast! It was sooo hot sitting out in the sun and even with a lot of sunblock, Gene had to take K inside after an hour and a half or so. Her shoulders were looking pink and I didn’t want my baby to get sunburned or dehydrated. Is it SERIOUSLY March?! I don’t understand how it CAN be. This weather is insanity.

I have yet to turn the A/C on this year though.. and I am holding out strong. I just feel like turning the air on before April is, just, well.. wrong. On so many levels. Mother Nature is clearly pissed off about all of the energy we waste and pollution and over-full landfills and, well, we need to do something to make her happy because I don’t really like it when she’s on the rag. So, everyone go recycle your aluminum cans and try to make the woman CALM THE EF DOWN, ALREADY.

I didn’t really take any good pictures this weekend. Tried to live in the moment and not worry so much about getting the perfect shots. It was nice. Saturday morning I went to check out the new Dunkin Donuts with my BFF and then we went and did some thrifting. My big find was a $0.54 pillow form, still in the plastic packaging! Woot woot. I plan to crochet a slipcover for it. In lots of pretty colors. Totally excited about that. Saturday night my mama watched the girls while Gene and I went to see a movie (Jeff, who lives at home) and then to Outback Steakhouse for dinner. What a fantastic date night! We haven’t been able to do that in so long.

The girls are doing great. Zoey is turning 3 next month, which just blows my mind. She’s talking left and right and using sentences. Making it a LOT easier to communicate with her. Kiera is finally walking and saying a few things here and there. Both love to play with each other and haven’t had any fighting (…YET). They are both so cute and so amazing and just getting more and more fun to be with. I can’t even believe I am a mama, let alone a mama to two beautiful little girls. What a lucky lady I am, for sure!

I’ll update more about the girls with some pictures next time. Right now I am going to go crack open a beer and sit down with a little Frozen Planet. Bring on the Frozen Tundra! Because OMG it is like, 100 million degrees in this house.

DVR = Delicious Vagina Revolution?

So I know I mentioned earlier that Gene and I have a DVR now and we are official junkies when it comes to that stupid, stupid machine! I thought I’d talk about a few of the shows we have on series record (hah, look at me, with the DVR-speak, I’m sooooo cool now).

first and foremost would be my new favorite cartoon, My Gym Partner’s A Monkey. I just happened to run across this cartoon one early morning while browsing TV before I headed off to work. I usually don’t stop on morning cartoons because they’re way too innocent for my taste. Well, this cartoon is HILARIOUS! I love it! Actually had Gene schedule it to record for now on so I can keep up with it. I just find it hilarious that the name of the school is Charles Darwin Middle School.

Coming at ya for number 2 would be Family Guy. I don’t talk about my FamGuy obsession much on my website. I think most people who know me “in real life” know about this and its pretty obvious since all I ever seem to do is quote the show and find oddball ways to relate it to real life situations. I can’t really describe my Family Guy obsession in words. I love the show and I don’t know if I’ve ever watched a TV series in my life that makes me laugh as much as this one does. I think it’s Freakin’ Sweet.

Late Night With Conan O’Brien is number three. I love Conan. There was a long time where we didn’t watch it very much because it comes on so late at night. Before we became DVR-Junkies, we were hardly ever able to watch it. I really love Conan and I am seriously thinking of making New York our honeymoon destination just so we can catch a live taping. I really want to be one of the idiots that is screaming above everyone else when he first walks out. I want to be the one he says “Thank you sir” to when said screaming is echoing above The Max Weinberg Seven’s instruments right before the monologue.

Weeds is a new show we’ve started recording. I saw one episode last night that was extremely odd and I loved it. It had a pretty good mixture of humor and drama. The humor is very subtle and dark. I don’t have much to say on this one as I’ve only seen one episode.. But I think I’m going to love it!

Flight of the Conchords… Um… This show may be the death of me. This show may be what causes me to actually pay for an HBO subscription. That is, assuming they have another season. This show has me absolutely falling off of my chair when I watch it and I think I have watched nearly every single video that is on The Tube. You know which Tube I’m talkin’ about people, the one that people flock to like a bunch of crazy ass seagulls. The one that houses the oh so popular Leave Britney Alone video ;) Yes.. that one! Search for Flight of the Conchords on there and watch some videos, it’ll give you a good idea of what the humor is like. I loooove their accents too :) I don’t know if I ever mentioned this before but I do not care much for the British accent. Most people in this country just fall head over heels in love with any one that has a British or Australian accent. I’ve never really understood why but to each their own. But I find the New Zealand accent totally AWESOME! I don’t “fall in love” with it but I do like it and I think it’s awesome. Or maybe It’s just Bret and Jemaine that I like so much!

Well that is all I have time for right now. There is more.. Oh yes there is more!

A TV Junkie in the making

Friday night was the first time I had turned my computer on in at least a week. I know, I am just as surprised. It is so unlike me me to go that long without turning this magnificent machine on. I just have been so tired and busy to make time for this thing. I mean, we own a really gigantic tv now and we have a DVR and if we don’t watch the things that are recorded, they will disappear into thin air. And we so cannot have that :( I feel like such a junkie now.

The things we tend to watch the most are Family Guy episodes, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Sarah Silverman Show and whatever else we can fit inbetween watching all of those. I really would love to watch more of my Big Love episodes but they are an hour long and it is unbelievably hard to find time to watch them. At least the other shows have commercials so if they are 30 minute episodes, we can watch them in 20 minutes. I never thought I’d be one of those people who sits there and talks about TV shows and DVRs and all of that nonsense.

Well… We are off to dinner at my parent’s house and then coming home to get ready for the work week ahead of us. Hopefully this week I can fit in some exercise and get back on my weight loss journey. I’ve gained about 5 pounds over the last 2 weeks and it is extremely depressing. I’ve been struggling with my appetite and it is not going to be easy to get back on track. I’m going to try my best to eat as much fruit as possible and stick with Lean Cuisine dinners.

Family Guy Lovin’

I don’t really talk much on my blog about my obsession with the animated tv series Family Guy. I’m not really sure why. I guess because it’s not quite as fun to quote the show on a blog as it is to in real life. I remember back when the show first came out and Gene would watch it and I just thought it was another one of his “stupid cartoons.” :) Hah.. I never imagined that I would end up completely in love with the show.

I can’t even describe the hilarity of the whole thing. The entire show is built off of references and parody. There are a lot of people who believe the entire show is plagiarism, but I think they’re just jealous of the pure genius of it all. They just wish they were the ones who came up with it first and so naturally, they diss on it to make themselves feel better.

Tonight’s episode was the Star Wars episode. It was an hour long (or around 40 minutes if you have a DVR and fast forward through commercials and yes we are officially one of those people now) and it was packed full of laughs. I have only seen one, possibly two Star Wars movies but I still got most of the references. I am anticipating the release of the DVD that will have that episode on it! I’m sure they are going to promote it to hell with it having the Star Wars episode on it. One little tip if you watch Family Guy.. be sure to pay close attention to this one. There are “surprise” appearances by a few characters from other shows. I spotted Bender from Futurama, a character from Home Movies, and even Roger, the alien from American Dad.

And my only other Family Guy comment is that today I finally went out and bought Vol. 5 DVD set. I went to Best Buy, where it was $32.99 and it had a holographic type cover on it. Woopteedoo. So I decided to go buy the same thing from Target so I could use my Mom’s employee discount card and get it cheaper! Well, to my surprise Target had the normal version and they also had a colletor’s edition that was $34.99. It has a few story board cards in it as well as a picture book. Pretty freakin’ awesome! I’m a little disappointed that they chose to split Season 5 into 2 DVD releases. More money for them and less left in my pocket. However, since I am a dedicated FG fan and I think Seth MacFarlane is a genius, I will continue to fork over buckaroos for the show.

To Catch A Predator

Gene and I are watching To Catch A Predator on Dateline NBC right now. I am just thoroughly disgusted by the behavior of the men that are showing up at their “undercover house.” I cannot believe everything that I am seeing on the television. I am just appalled and quite frankly, a little freaked out! I can’t imagine how these guys’ families feel about them now :( Some of them are throwing away 20+ years of a good job, marriages, friendships and family ties. I mean, is sex even worth all of that?? What a waste!

I made homemade Mac ‘n Cheese for dinner and it was too spicey. I just used noodles, a can of Campbell’s Cheddar Cheese Condensed Soup and some ro-tel sauce. But I used the Walmart Rotel and it was WAY too spicey. Like, so hot I was in pain! So I had some Oreo-o’s cereal instead ;) Yum yum! An awesome alternative, that is for sure.

Anyway, got a busy week this week. Yesterday Gene and I went down to Norman to visit the OU Campus and see Daphne Loves Derby live ;) You know, the band I previously posted about? They were wonderful and I really, really enjoyed the show! I couldn’t stand up and bounce around as much as I would have liked due to my knee injury but I did enjoy the good music. Tomorrow night is Senses Fail in Tulsa (the band we are going to see is Set Your Goals). There is a lot of winter weather supposedly starting tomorrow so we will see if we get to go or not. Oh and Friday we are meeting with a lady at a country club about wedding type stuff. Busy, busy week.

Spaghetti Squash Pie & Train Man

Italian Turkey and Spaghetti Squash PieFor lunch today I made Italian Turkey and Spaghetti Squash Pie. It was delicious! I accidentally put in 1 pound of Ground Turkey instead of 1/2 a pound so I was unable to fit it into a pie dish. Technically, it wasn’t a pie in our case. But it was close enough. It sure was yummy though. It’s a Weight Watchers recipe I got online and wow I can’t believe how tasty it is. I’ve used Spaghetti Squash in the past to make Spaghetti and it turned out okay, a little too saucy. Since then I have yet to experiment with it. I love it and I think it is a wonderful alternative to starchy pasta. A great low calorie, low fat alternative to pasta, definitely! The only change I made to the recipe was that I added about 1/4 Tsp. of Salt and Pepper to it.. Because it seemed to be lacking in salt as far as the other ingredients went. It turned out wonderful, not too salty at all. Oh and I used Fat Free Mozarella cheese for the topping. You could probably alter this in a LOT of ways but I think no matter how you do it, its gonna turn out yummy.

I’ve been cooking a lot more in the last couple of weeks. Trying to be less lazy in the kitchen and try new things. This week we are going to have Chicken Curry and Sweet ‘n Sour Meatballs (both rice dishes), Red Beans & Rice and Very Mom’s Potato Soup recipe :) I love the idea of me having all of our meals planned out for the week. If I cook 4 out of 5 days, that leaves plenty of leftovers for Gene’s lunches (I eat Lean Cuisine for lunch during the weekdays) and maybe even some for the weekend! Yay for cooking. My love for it is growing so quickly and I’m starting to really enjoy being in the kitchen, which is a complete 180° from what I used to be like.

Last night Gene and I watched Train Man, the live action tv series (first episode) not the movie. I liked it and thought it was pretty funny. Interested to see the rest of the series. A couple of weeks ago Gene and I went to B&N to sit around and read and he read the first book in the Manga series. So far, so good!
