Tea Party

A friend of ours hosted a tea party for her daughter and her friends and it was a lot of fun! My girls had a blast playing with friends, drinking “tea” (pink lemonade) and just being girly girls for a little bit.

There were princess sandwiches, oreos, chocolate chip cookies, strawberry sugar wafers, pink marshmallows, pink lemonade and pink lemonade cupcakes. So pink and so girly and so adorable.

Look at all of these fancy ladies? Very adorable!

And look at my non-conformist? Wearing a non-foofoo dress, no hat and threw her pony on the table. I just love her.

Kiera was killing me in her adorable hat and.. Oh my goodness…

After the tea party was over, the girls went to run around in the yard. They all had a lot of fun.

And it was a little bit windy…

And I got stung in the earlobe by a wasp. I cried. I yanked at my ear. I tried to think of ways I could just CUT MY EAR OFF RIGHT THERE. I used all of the willpower inside of me to refrain from dropping the f-bomb in front of little girls.

A farewell to November

Well November, you have been a pretty good month. However, I have to admit that this has been by far the fastest moving month so far this year. It really seems like we were just starting November and all of a sudden, it’s over. This has been a mild November for us okies and I’m sure for a lot of other states out there. Usually we’ve had at least some snow flurries by now but there is no sign of temperatures that cold.

I’m looking forward to the first snow, even if it is a few little snow flurries that don’t stick to the ground. I need something that signifies that we are entering Winter. Right now it seems like some kind of on and off Battle of the Seasons between Fall and Winter. And truly? I have no idea who is winning. Some days it is in the 70s and some days it is in the 40s or 50s. This is the kind of wonky weather that totally throws my sinuses off track. I’m trying everything in my power to stay healthy and NOT get ill with a sinus infection again. I am sick of those darn things!

My Thanksgiving was great. We didn’t do Black Friday shopping. I really can’t remember if we even did last year or not but there were horrible “deals” (if you can even call them that) this year. Also, after hearing that a poor man died at Walmart by being trampled to death, I realized that maybe Black Friday shopping may be on our list of Things To Boycott. I don’t want to be involved in craziness that risks people’s lives. I spoke with a friend who works at Walmart nearby and she said they had a fight break out while people were running to the merchandise. I don’t understand why people become to violent when it comes to all of these stupid material possessions? It makes me sick and embarrassed to even be of the same species as them.

My BIL and SIL came in to work with their 2 week old baby, so I did get to spend an evening with an adorable newborn. It made me SO excited and so ready to have this baby. When Gene was holding the baby I just felt like, wow this is going to be my life in 5 short months. It’s amazing! Also, a friend from out of town came to town to visit and catch up with people so it was really great to hang out with her. We walked around Target, went to eat Pho and ice cream. It was a nice visit! I felt like it was a great long weekend for catching up with old friends and family and just hanging out with my husband and my family as well. Good times!

I did buy a few things that were on sale, but not until late evening, so I personally don’t think it counts as Black Friday shopping. I got a game for my Nintendo DS Lite and I Also got a few movies: Peter Pan, Rush Hour 3 and 101 Dalmations. My Disney collection is coming together nicely. I’m glad to know that my kids will have a nice stack of (ahem, GOOD) Disney movies to watch as they get older. A lot of the classics that I also enjoyed as a child.

Today has been a lazy one. I wrapped all of the gifts I have bought for people so far (almost done!) and watched part of Santa Claus The Movie (my FAVORITE classic Christmas movie), fell asleep on the couch and just woke up from a call from my Mom inviting us over for dinner tonight.

We’re finding out the sex of the baby in just 10 short days!!!

Flickr Overload

I uploaded a ton of pictures to my Flickr this evening. This is the first time I’ve sat down at my computer at home for more than 3 seconds. I am so exhausted though so I am probably going to hit the sack very soon. I need to try to get some decent sleep this week and also start getting up early again. Last week I hit snooze every single morning until it was so late that I had to throw some clothes on and run out the door. I’m hoping this week I can get my shit together and get back on track.

I’ll finish labeling and organizing my pictures on my Flickr some other day. I got a decent chunk of them done but I don’t have another hour to sit here and do that anymore. We got our laundry done this weekend and we got our guest bathroom all put back together. All I need to do is get some other cleaning done (bathrooms, floors) and we will be ready for our company this weekend. I didn’t mention that yet but Gene’s brother and sister-in-law are coming from Colorado to stay with us and have Thanksgiving with my family. I’m glad to get to see them again! I hope they don’t mind if my house is a mess…

Malinda is doing better, I think. I still worry about her and I think I always will now. But I trust her and I know she is such a smart, intelligent woman so I know she knows what she needs to do. She is a great person and I really hope she realizes this. Grandma is not doing well at all. They’re calling in hospice and that is never a good thing. We’re going on Saturday for the day to visit her and stuff. I need to get some prints made of the pictures I took this weekend so I can take them up there and add them to the photo album that I made her last weekend. I put about 50 pictures in it when we went up there and I wrote next to them all. I told her I would add to the photo album as I took more pictures. I really can’t describe how my heart feels. It’s a feeling I don’t think I’ve ever felt before. I’ve been pushing a lot of those feelings to the back of my mind so that I can enjoy the here & now this weekend.

Ok time for bed! Have a great week everybody!

BOO!

I really wanted to be a part of NaBloPoMo this year and I remember specifically vowing to myself to do everything that I could to do it this year but it’s amazing how so many crazy things can happen all at once, all at the worst time. Nothing ever really happens when it’s convenient. But I supposed it’s never really convenient for bad things to happen, anyway.

Gene and I had a wonderful time while in northern Illinois. I shopped at Ikea and decided that I wanted to move in there. I think Gene’s whole opinion on the place is that it is WAY too big. I think I lost his attention on our 2nd day there (yes, TWO days!) but it’s totally understandable. Oh and did I mention that I want to buy one of each of their Duvet covers. I LOVE all of the patterns! And they’re cheap! We also got to the Threadless store, finally.  We swore off using Google Maps for anything ever again, at least for a while. I think it only took us an entire day to get to the Threadless store. Of course that’s because Google Maps originally led us to their warehouse/office.

The Friday before we left on vacation we drove up to my Grandma’s house to visit her for the day. She lives about 3 hours away, to give an idea of how far we’re talkin’ here. It’s not THAT far but just far enough to be really tiring. So we drove up there on a Friday to visit her for a day. Then we drove to Illinois, a good 13 hours there and 14 1/2 back. We got a call that she was in the hospital so on Saturday morning we headed up to Joplin, MO to visit her in the hospital. Joplin is about 4 hours from our house, if mom’s driving.

Not much to say about the visit to the hospital other than it was the most emotional I’ve been in a while. I really can’t even explain how much my heart was breaking when I saw her. She looked so bad and so sick and like she had to be in so much pain and so miserable. I pretty much swore to myself that if I am over a certain age, I will NOT go through chemo if I am diagnosed with cancer. I’d rather live a shorter life than live longer and go through that misery. Totally not worth it, in my books.

Last week we had a plumber out to fix some things around the house and also had a Chimney Sweep come out and clean our fireplace. I’ve never used a fireplace in my life so it was quite a new experience. I still have yet to use it, because as soon as they left, the weather warmed up significantly. The best part of the entire experience is that the name of the company we called out is Mary Poppin’s Chimney Sweep and the lady who came out was wearing a black top hat and it was hilarious.

I also have a friend in need. A friend in need of prayers or thoughts or good vibes or whatever it is that you do or believe in. So if you could keep my good friend Malinda and my Grandma in your thoughts or prayers I would really appreciate it. These are two people I care deeply about and am worrying night and day about them. I can’t talk about my friend’s situation as it is quite a private one… Just know that she needs the good vibes right now, really badly.

Birthdays & a Movie Review

I feel so awul because yesterday was Maggie’s (Gene’s younger sister) birthday and I didn’t even write a post to say Happy Birthday to her! So here it is.. Happy Birthday to Maggie! I hope she got our package and I hope she liked the gift. We both love her and wish we lived closer so that we could spend more time with her.

Today is Layla (my little sister) and Malinda’s Birthdays!! So Happy Birthday to them. We are all gonna go eat tonight at Shogun (Japanese Steakhouse / Hibachi Grill). I’m really excited to go and see my sister and Malinda and hang out with everyone.. and of course to also eat at Shogun.. because, hello, YUM! :D

Not much else. Yesterday Gene and I went on a picnic at the park and then went to see the movie Babel. I can’t really say much about the movie. The movie itself seemed pretty good  but whoever filmed the movie did a HORRIBLE job. I’m sure they made the camera’s shakey and zoomed in 90% of the time for a reason but it was too much for Gene and I. We were both motion sick afterwards. Also doesn’t help that we were in the dollar theatre and had to sit really close to the front. Either way, I’d say it was a good movie.. Take some ginger root and go see it!

How does a cow laugh, anyway?

I have great news! See.. I always buy the 3 pack of laughing cow light cheese at Sam’s Club because its cheaper and hello, I love the stuff! And last night we were browsing through Sam’s and came across a 3 pack of laughing cow garlic & herb LIGHT! Yessss. Snatched that up quickly :) So yay. The stuff is great plain, spread on crackers or spread on toast. I just had 2 pieces of toast with some laughing cow for breakfast. Oh and I scrambled up some southwestern egg beaters. We gotta have a full balanced meal before our first day at our Gym ;)

When I woke up this morning, I peeked out the window because it seemed cloudy out there. It’s snowing! What the hell?? I knew there was bad weather forecasted for Thursday/Friday of next week but I really don’t think anyone ever mentioned snow on Saturday. It’s not a huge storm and since it was in the 50s yesterday, it isn’t going to stick to the ground at all. But still.. That is just not something you expect to see when you get up in the morning. Not in Oklahoma, anyway.

So I better get going. Got a full day planned out for us and we both got up later than we wanted to. But it’s a Saturday, who cares? We are going to go work out at the Gym for a while (I’m guessing 30 minutes to an hour) and then come home. Gene has some Karaoke songs to make for our CD and I need to get some cleaning done this afternoon. Tonight we’re having game night at our house. Mom, Layla, Malinda and Layla’s boyfriend are coming. Gonna eat chinese food, play games, sing karaoke and maybe watch The Big Lebowski (the funniest movie EVER). The movie seems a little ambitious as we can’t stay awake forever but we’ll try and see what we can get done. Oh and it’s the first time Gene and I get to meet her boyfriend. I still think it’s strange that my little sister (almost 16) has a boyfriend. Takes some getting used to, that is for sure!

[EDIT] I popped my knee out of place on the way into the car and when I fell it definitely popped back in. Needless to say I did not end up at the Gym today and I will be going to the doctor’s office on Monday. Ugh. [/EDIT]

The Search for Nintendo Wii

Feeling sooo much better. I can’t believe my girlie-cramps were that bad on Friday. I don’t really remember ever having them that bad since at least middle school when I was on prescription pain medicine. It’s during those moments that a woman really, really curses womanhood and sees all men as the devil’s children. It’s crazy but true, people!

We shopped way too much at Kohl’s this weekend. I think we made 4 separate trips to the store. Crazy, I know. We got a 30% off coupon in the mail.. you cannot beat that. We almost always get 15% off and toss it and if we’re lucky, we get the 20% off. I dont’ think I’ve ever got the 30% one. I got a new purse. Red leather. Verrrry adorable. And an adorable scarf to tie around it, to bring it up a notch ;)

While I was in Kohl’s I ran into an old friend from middle school. I was soo excited and I got her number. I’ll probably call her sometime this week to see about getting together. I’d like to chat it up and meet her little boy. And speaking of that, I think I am the only person left in my age group that is not married or at least having kids right now! This does not disappoint me in anyway, just making an observation. Everyone I knew from middle school or high school seems like they are already married or at least have 1 or more children. Growing up… ahhhhh…

P.S. at Kohls I got a lot of “stuff”. The purse, Family Guy pj pants, Family Guy boxers, Simpson’s Boxers, Beavis & Butthead Boxers, Pink Panther socks, Tinkerbell socks, 2 bath towels, Scooby Doo t-shirt.. I may have forgot other stuff but I am getting pretty tired now.

Anyway, gonna go get the dogs in bed and get all ready for bed. Family Guy at 10:30 and then sleeeep :) Got an insanely busy 2 weeks ahead of us and am not even sure where to start…

» Nov 16 – Brandtson is playing in Tulsa, so we will drive to Tulsa after work and see them play. This calls for a looong night, as Tulsa is 1 1/2 hour drive from home!
» Nov 18 – Nintendo Wii comes out the next day.. We will be starting our “Walmart Camping Trip” around noon on the 18th to prepare.
» Nov 19 – Even though we will hopefully have a Wii in our possession, I will have to pull together all adrenaline and energy to try and clean the house and get all of the Christmas deco up.
» Nov 22-26 – Gene’s brother and sister in law will be in town. We think they are staying with us, so we will be busy, busy, busy during these days. Also plan on going Black Friday shopping with them.
