socks
you’re soft, warm and cozy
you keep my toesies toasty
sometimes you’re striped
sometimes you’re dotty
most of the time you’re fuzzy
i like it best when you’re a pair
like ponytails in my hair

and don’t even think that I hesitated about putting this in the Domestic Goddess category. Oh yes I did go there!

My dog. The gigantic one. Will not stop whining at the back door. And I am thisclose to punching him in the throat. But that is neither here nor there…

Ok, I promise I’m not going to actually punch my dog. I mean, how do you punch an animal anyway? That seems a little weird. The whole concept. If it wasn’t gross, I’d totally bite him. Cause I think if you bite a dog, they would totally understand your anger towards them. If you punch a dog, I don’t think they have any way of knowing that you really mean business because in their little doggy world, they don’t have fist fights or boxing matches. Ok this is WAY too much discussion on doggy punching.

I don’t have much to talk about, if you can’t already tell. Today I took Z to the doctor to have a quick weight check because she has been fussy the last few days and I thought maybe it was time to up her dose of acid reflux medicine. Well, she is now 13 lbs even and just turned 15 weeks old on Tuesday. My little peanut is growing and although it is really exciting, it isn’t sitting well with me. My heart aches for that tiny little newborn again.

So the doctor said no to upping her medication and actually suggested we start her on Enfamil AR or some other special kind of formula. Gene & I decided we aren’t going to rush into changing her formulas right now. She has been on this formula since she was about 8 weeks old and has been doing fantastic on it. I’m thinking she just had a bad few days. Maybe a little stomach bug? She was AWESOME today! We were at Target for a good 4 hours and she did magnificent there and has been doing wonderful ever since she’s been home. We had lunch with my mom and my sister (they both work there) and did a little shopping. I only went to get Level 2 nipples for her bottles and ended up spending $60. How? you ask. Let me tell you thy way of spending the quan.

So I was sitting in the changing room area and talking to my sister and feeding Z when I get a phone call from a number that I don’t recognize. I answer it “This is Candace” because that is what I do when I don’t know the number because I am a huge dork and like to tell people MY REAL NAME WITHOUT KNOWING WHO IT IS FIRST. Oh my gosh I just realized how stupid that is. I’ve got to change my ways!! Anyway back to the story… It’s my mom! She is calling from the Guest Services (where she works) desk to tell me that she forgot to tell me that there was a huge clearance going on in toys. She said people form the flea market were buying baskets full of toys from there.

So like any good mother would do, I yanked the bottle out of Z’s mouth and hurried as fast as I could over to the toy department. She was fussing a little and again, like Mother of The Year, I shoved a paci in her mouth and told her if she wanted toys she needed to be good. Because, you know, a 15 week old infant knows EXACTLY what it means to be good, let alone GET TOYS!

I made out with a few goodies but nothing fantastical. Have you seen those magnetic toys that spell works, called Wordworld? They’re normally around $30 each and I got one that spells SHEEP and one that spells PIG for about $3.75 each. I got an awesome looking Cranium game that is normally $35 for $7. I got a bunch of sidewalk chalk and bubbles for really cheap ($1-3 each). These are all things that are WAY too old for Z anytime in the near future, however, I am a GREAT MOTHER and was thinking ahead! And I might only partially be mesmerized and entranced whenever I see those little red Target clearance stickers. It’s almost like hypnotism to me. It’s awful, just awful!

Anyway, my husband came home from work early because he was having a dizzy spell again. He gets these from time to time and all the doctors can really tell him is that it may be vertigo. He has been in bed since he got home. His hands, arms, forehead and face were freezing when he got home! I made Meatloaf, but wanted it to cook faster because I was hungry, so I scooped it into little balls with my cookie dough scoop. I glazed them with a VERY complicated and sophisticated sauce that I like to call Ketchup. I made Mac & Cheese and then I ate this by myself, on a small melamine Snoopy plate that is intended for toddlers. It was glorious.

Dishes are done, laundry is drying, Hubby is still snoozin’, Z is sleeping in her bouncy and I am just enjoying a few minutes of down time.

I’m so glad to see August. Why? Because that means we’re getting closer to the end of Summer. I can’t take this heat much longer. Next week is in the 100s all week and the high is 104 one day. I think that may be the day that I officially melt to death. Only one other person has ever melted to death and that was Frosty the Snowman. But he is lucky in one single magical way, he comes back every year with the new Winter’s snow. Me? Not so much.

So.. I have great plans for the weekend. We don’t have any commitments other than a birthday party to attend tomorrow afternoon. I am planning on re-organizing the closets in my house and seeing what all I can purge. I need to go through the hoards of books on my shelves and see what I’ve read and what I don’t need to keep. I need to go through boxes of purses and other stuff in the closet shelves. I need to get some plastic tubs to pack away the stuff we are wanting to keep but never use. We have a lot of Fortune Cookie boxes that Gene has had his stuff in for years now and if he is wanting to preserve the things in them, that is not the way to do it! I may have to go buy at least 5 tubs this weekend but my plan is to get everything organized and in a proper place. We no longer live in a rent house or apartment, we live in a home that we own. Therefore, I think we should spoil ourselves a little by getting our things in place and organized. I mean, we’re gonna be living in this house for a while.

Anyway, I am going to try my best to get some stuff done around the house this weekend. I also am going to get a before and after photo of our refrigerator when I clean it. So wish me luck on all of these things. They’re the things I swear I’m going to do EVERY weekend and never end up doing, hah.

First of all I wanted to mention that there is a customer at work who insists on calling me Candy. I’ve never once answered the phone with that name and I almost always go by Candace. The only people who have ever really called me Candy is The Husband and my little sister. She keeps calling and asking for “Candy” and when she leaves me voicemail she starts out with “Hi Candy, this is…” and so on. I find it quite hilarious that this lady I’ve only ever talked to on the phone a handful of times is already getting on such a personal level with me. I mean, what is the proper etiquette in this situation? Do I start making up cute little nicknames for her as well?

Second I wanted to mention that the elephant ear bulb I planted earlier this year is now blooming in my front garden. I planted 5 hosta bulbs last night and I am so psyched about that. I want to buy 100 more elephant ears and hostas and just be surrounded by their beauty. My plan for this weekend is to run by Walmart and pick up some landscaping items. I really just want to grab a few plants or flowers and some mulch. I’ve gotta get some of my front garden area under control. I think if I do a little bit this year I can do more next year. Anything is better than what is currently going on, seriously! It’s like a pile of disgusting weeds. I’ve also found that Walmart sells about the same stuff as Home Depot and it is sometimes 25-40% cheaper than The Depot. Love ya Depot but in a time where gas is almost $4 a gallon, I just can’t pay $5 for a bag of mulch that is $2 at The Wal*marts.

So I’m also planning on finally downloading the pictures off of my camera that have been sitting there for a week. And I also want to work with my sewing machine a little bit. And and and. That is my life, full of Ands. The Ifs and Buts aren’t really in the picture anymore but the Ands sure do tend to take over everything.

I got so much accomplished today when it comes to Wedding Nonsense! I love how much we got done and makes me feel so much better about this whole thing. Looks like we are going to get the invitations mailed out on Monday.. which was my original deadline. Here is what we did today:

Bought ribbon for to wrap around the chinese takeout boxes (wedding favors)

Bought stencils and stencil cutter for my “project” with the driving directions to the wedding site.

Designed, printed, and cut out the driving directions to go into the invitations.

Designed and printed the labels to go on the Hershey Nugget Chocolates that I’m going to have on the tables.

Finished the invitations!

Ordered Gene’s wedding band !!!!!

Got some CUTE light pink (“cotton candy”) crocs for the wedding.

All I need to do is print the envelopes and then get the invites put together. Tomorrow we’re going to my grandma’s house so that I can watch Grandma while Mom takes Grandpa to the emergency room. He’s really, really sick and their family physician passed away a few months ago. I’m going to take all the wedding stuff with us so we can assemble them tomorrow while we are there.

7 more weeks!

P.S. I love our new oven! Last night we baked a batch of Green Tea Muffins, No Pudge Fudge Brownies, Whole Wheat Banana Bread and today I made some garlic toast with the broiler and healthy alfredo on the stove top. OH YAH! We also baked up a family size Lean Cuisine Pizza in there with the “pizza” setting.. It was BOMB! I can’t believe how delicious it was!

Just wanted to update on the last entry I wrote about TheKnot.com. They finally (after 6 days?) replied to my e-mail, telling me that the reason my entire order was on back order was because of the wedding bubbles I ordered. So wait, let me get this right… You’re holding my entire order hostage because of one item that I ordered… out of about 20 that were ordered?? WHAT?? Are they seriously that cheap!?

Needless to say, I am never ordering a single thing from them again. For being a Wedding related website, you think they would be on top of things when it comes to customer service and getting their product out. I mean, don’t they figure that the bride or whoever it is that is ordering this stuff already has enough stress on their plate? Needless to say, I am pretty much done with that site. I never really used it to “plan” my wedding because the lady who is in charge of the place I’m having the ceremony and reception at is pretty much doing EVERYTHING. She’s doing the food, cake, decorations, flowers, etc. It’s SO much easier when you go this route, trust me!

I did go meet with her yesterday and I got to see a sneak peak at my bouquet. It already has 6 cala lilies on it and there are a good 2-3 more to be put on. And yes, I am using silk flowers in my entire wedding and ceremony. I’m really trying to keep this whole wedding as SIMPLE as possible. It has gotten a little out of hand at times but I think we’re keeping it pretty minimal so far. I’m gonna go meet with her in a few more weeks to give her some more stuff I have and make a payment and all of that nonsense.

Well, I gotta get to work. My new range is being delivered today between 10 AM and 2 PM!!! Yay, I am so excited. It just sucks that I have to go back to work afterwards. I’d much rather stay at home and stare at the beautiful new oven.

I’m embarassed to even admit how excited I am about possibly getting a new oven. Is that the ultimate sign that I have officially grown up and am becoming domesticated? I thought Marriage was supposed to do that but I still have two more months before that happens and I’m already feeling a little on the old lady side. Did I ever mention that when the weather goes from warm to cold over night I have lots of pain in my knees for a few days? More on that some other time. I think I can only handle one old-lady thing at a time here!

I don’t know if I ever mentioned it but about 4 months ago our oven passed away. It was really sad and I was and still am quite angry with it for just going like that. I mean, we just bought this house last May and not even 6 months later it bites the dust? Pretty rude if you ask me!

Thanks to their credit card, the 12 months no interest and the 10% sale right now! We went in store and looked at it this afternoon and it is just as pretty as it looks in the picture, if not better. The only problem we have run into is that the oven in our house right now is a drop-in oven and we really want to purchase a slide-in one. There will be some wood cutting and tile cutting to get this new bad boy in but I am determined to do it!

So hopefully this time next week I will be baking delicious dishes in my new oven.

Because if I have to cook one more thing in my TOASTER OVEN it will not be a pretty sight!
