I like live music

This week has been more active than usual. On Wednesday night, we (Candace, Layla, and I) went to the Conservatory to see Brandtson. It was pretty disappointing for a couple of reasons. First, the band only played about five songs due to some technical difficulties. Second, all the songs were from the new album except for one from Send Us a Signal. I’ve grown to appreciate the new album more, but for me it’ll never match their previous ones.

Tonight, we went to see the Flaming Lips. Despite the fact that I really dislike how impersonal large arenas are, they put on a really good show. It was like a huge party going on the whole time. They played most of the songs I wanted to hear (though I still really wanted to hear Fight Test). The theatrics, confetti, and balloons were all very cool and really didn’t feel contrived. There were moments I won’t forget that remind me how powerful music really is.

Life has been relatively “busy” recently. I wish I had more time to enjoy it all. It goes by so fast, and I guess I’m lucky that I have people to share it with.

Karaoke Night; Latterman

Last weekend, Candace, Layla, and I had Karaoke Night at our house. Here’s the playlist:

  1. The Get Up Kids – Holiday
  2. Alkaline Trio – This Could Be Love
  3. Cadillac Blindside – Straightjacket Weather
  4. No Motiv – Only You
  5. The Stereo – Tell Your Football Dad No
  6. Against Me! – Pints Of Guinness
  7. Shinobu – Moms And Dads
  8. Spitalfield – I Loved The Way She Said LA
  9. The Cardinal Sin – Where We Shine
  10. Lock And Key – 303
  11. The Get Up Kids – Don’t Hate Me
  12. Cartel – Write This Down
  13. The Forecast – These Lights
  14. Mae – Soundtrack For Our Movie
  15. Against Me – The Disco Before The Breakdown
  16. Fifth Hour Hero – Plastic Smiles
  17. Cadillac Blindside – Plug Pullers Anonymous

It was lots of fun. Speaking of music, I’ve been listening to the new Latterman CD, “…We Are Still Alive”, and it’s nothing short of amazing. In summary: pissed off yet very positive songs about friendship and togetherness. It gives me hope in the world. This CD makes me want to give everyone a hug.

Japanese Weekend

Dabbled a bit in Japanese culture this weekend:

  • Ate at Japanese restaurant: Fuji Japanese Restaurant.
  • Watched Japanese movie: Nobody Knows.
  • Watched anime: Da Capo S.S.

Candace already talked about our experience at Fuji in pretty good detail.

Nobody Knows is a Japanese independent film. The story sounded really interesting – about four kids who were pretty much abandoned by their parents, living in an apartment by themselves. But, like lots of independent movies, it doesn’t try to make it easy on the watcher. Like what the hell is going on at times, or a conclusive ending. I think we were all pretty disappointed.

Layla & I watched Da Capo S.S. (second season) up to episode 9. So far it reminds me of a soap opera. Maybe it will get better.

Overall, it did turn out to be a good weekend with good people and good times.
