it’s finally here… snow cone season!

It's that time of year again...

On my way home from my parent’s house this evening, I had the window rolled down and it was a warm, humid 80° outside. The warm wind was blowing in my hair and I realized it was getting close to Snow Cone Season! I pulled up to an intersection near the shopping center that houses my favorite Snow Cone stand in town and to my surprise I saw a long line of cars in the drive-thru! NO WAY! It’s already open?!?! In April?!?! It usually doesn’t open until the end of May after school is out!

I immediately start scrounging for money in my wallet and all I have is $1 in cash. I drive home, run in the house, grab some cash out of my bag and run back out to the car. Sit in line for a solid 20 minutes in the drive-thru and get my sacred Snow Cone. It’s half Tiger’s Blood (Strawberry and Banana) and half Black Cherry. With gummy bears on top. Mmmmm!

C’mon Summer! I’ll take ya down, one snow cone at a time!

my kid can climb?!?!?

Sitting here, talking to a friend on Facebook and I look up and my kid is on the fireplace hearth. I sat there for a second in shock and then blurted out, what the heck?!? I ran over and put her back down on safe ground, she threw a fit and I walked away. She climbed back up there, so I did the same thing and she reacted the same way. I ran to get the camera and started recording because I knew she was going to go for it again.

Ok so here is the thing, my kid (like almost all other kids, I’m sure) loooves remote controls. She has a fake one (the black one seen at the beginning of the video) that her Grandpa gave her but somehow in her genius baby mind she KNOWS it isn’t the real deal. Therefore, she could care less about it. Now, I keep all of our remotes in the little basket on top of the stereo speaker so that they are all in one place and are not getting lost every day (related: DON’T YOU HATE THAT THERE IS FIFTEEN BAJILLION REMOTES?!?! IT DRIVES ME NUTS!!). I can’t help but think that when she stumbled upon this basket once she topped Fireplace Hearth Mountain, she MUST have felt like she had found the Holy Grail.

I moved the basket and she hasn’t gone back up there… Yet.

My kid can really climb. Someone please hold me.

added a new category

I hate it when I think of something FANTASTICALLY AWESOMELY BRILLIANT to tweet about and it is more than 140 characters. I know Twitter is supposed to be for “micro-blogging” but what about every day brilliance that lands between regular blogging and micro-blogging? Well, my solution is the “Too Long To Tweet” category on my regular blog.

And yes, I totally just wasted your time by posting on my blog about a new category that I added. Like anyone gives a you-know-what.

Oh I also wanted to say that if you don’t hear from me in a while, please come looking for me. I know Oklahoma is all about Wind and Sweeping Down The Planes and all but SERIOUSLY? The cover on my grill has blown off twice. Like, completely UP and OVER the grill! Oh and they said the winds will be WORSE tomorrow. Not gonna hang my panties on the clothesline tomorrow, that’s for damn sure!

my peanut is growing!

Happy When Messy

We took our little princess to the doctor yesterday morning for her one year check up. She is healthy and doing wonderful! Her weight growth has slowed down a little bit but that is completely normal since she has become so active. She did receive 3 shots and that was absolutely terrible :( She screamed, cried, arched her back and tried to get away, all while gigantic alligator tears rolled down her rosey cheeks. My heart was aching. Those few minutes felt like hours!

Height: 30 inches (75%)
Weight: 21.2 pounds (48%)
Head Circumference: 92% (not sure on the measurement)

Daddy apologized profusely for passing on his Big Head Genes to her. I kissed her tears away and pretend-blowed her nose. She smiled and half-laughed. We headed out of the doctor’s office, only to stop and schedule another shot-filled appointment in 3 months. Growing up is hard work!

recovering from a birthday bash

Like the title suggests, we are in the recovery process. Still! Yes, the party was on Saturday afternoon and it is now Sunday night. I have a feeling we will still be trying to recover when this weekend is upon us. I am still exhausted from the chaos super dee duper fun time we had!

Zoey had a ton of fun rubbing greasy, buttercream icing into her hair, all over her tummy and in-between her fingers. Gene said he had a really hard time getting the cake and icing off of her hands and from in-between her fingers. When we sang Happy Birthday, she did her absolutely adorable shy-smile and I couldn’t even sing along with the crowd because I was just so intently watching her in all of her cuteness glory.

My dad grilled amazing hamburgers and hotdogs. We had chips and a persian potato salad (called Salad Olivia). The birthday cake was half lemon and half strawberry vanilla swirl. I made Funfetti (you know, the box?) cupcakes for the kids. It was a general good time with friends and family. A lot of people, a small house, a short-lived rain shower and just lots of chatting and hanging out.

We didn’t get to open gifts until after most of the crowd had wandered out. In all honesty, it was a little less chaotic opening gifts without as many people there. I think we took too long eating & doing cake and people got tired or bored or Claustrophobic. I love being together with friends and family and good food but I gotta say, I am not a huge fan of being the host. I feel like I never get to sit and talk with the people I wanna talk to because I am so busy trying to make sure people have what they need or that bubble machines are functioning properly and full of bubble juice.

Zoey stayed in good spirits through the whole party. The only time I heard her cry is when Gene was trying to clean her up after eating that cupcake. She was awake from about 10:15 AM to about 5 PM when she finally crashed for an hour or so. Grandma and Grandpa gave her a Radio Flyer wagon for her birthday and she absolutely hands-down LOVES it. She smiles and babbles when we take her for a ride around the neighborhood in it. It is absolutely the cutest thing ever!

I will post pictures whenever I get around to uploading them all. It is almost midnight and Zoey has her 1 year check up at 9 AM tomorrow.

Goodness, has it already been a whole year?!?!?

wedding anniversary, number two!

While we were in California visiting my in-laws, what I like to call The Chao Trifecta*, was in full swing! We kicked off this fun and exciting three-day family event by having our second wedding anniversary! April 12th, was the day to be exact. Luckily my MIL loved Zoey and vice versa, so we had a babysitter in place. We had no car, so Gene searched online for something nearby that was within’ walking distance for our Anniversary dinner. We settled on Yuki Sushi. We love Sushi and Japanese food and we just about never get to eat it because it is really pricey! For this special event, we decided to splurge. So we walked to the restaurant and it was AH-MAZING!!

For dinner we ordered Sushi and a Japanese Bento Box.. It ended up being WAY too much food but it was nice to sample a few different things from a new place. We ordered a box to go, packed up our leftovers and took them home to my MIL and SIL. We had a great time! It was really nice to get away for a little while with my husband, alone, just the two of us. These kinds of outings are very few and far between these days.

For dessert we had Green Tea Ice Cream with Banana Tempura! It was amazing and the way they plated it up made it so much more special.

Green Tea Ice Cream with Bananas Tempura

Needless to say, we will be going back to this restaurant when we visit next time!

* The Chao Trifecta consists of three consecutive days of Chao Family Celebrations! April 12th is our Wedding Anniversary, April 13th is my Birthday and April 14th is Zoey’s Birthday!

why, hello there allergy season

Last night I did a lot of yard work and today I have paid for it. I’ve taken allergy medicine and I’ve put allergy eye drops in my eyeballs three times already today. When my allergies are acting up, my entire body feels like it shuts down and all I want to do is sleep until I feel better. I get exhausted pretty easily and have a hard time doing anything. I know it sounds dramatic but it is really how it makes my body feel! Without allergy medicine, I am a pretty useless lump of fluff.

I took a nap earlier this evening and I am about to go jump in bed here in a few minutes. It’s 11 PM and I feel dead to the world! Exhausted, actually. I really hope, with all of my might, that Zoey does not get hit by allergies like I did. I think allergies are pretty inevitable if you live in Oklahoma but I hope she doesn’t get burdened with them until she is a LOT older if it is going to happen. Stupid allergies!!

Tonight we went to Sam’s Club to get all of the food for the birthday party on Saturday. I still need to run to the store for a few other things that I didn’t wanna buy in bulk but other than that, the food part of the party is done. I will be happy when Saturday morning is here because the stress of having a lot of people in my tiny house is started to take over. I think a LOT of people I invited are actually going to show up. Of course, RSVPing is a thing of the past (apparently) so I don’t know EXACTLY how many people will be there, but I think there will be a lot. We’re either going to have barely enough hamburgers and hotdogs or we are going to have so many that Gene and I will be eating them for weeks to come.
