Taxi Cab Confessions: Popcorn Addiction

It’s no secret that I love popcorn. I may not write about it on here very often but anyone who really knows me knows that I absolutely love popcorn. I’ll eat just about any kind of popcorn, even the stuff that you can get at the Target food court that turns stale as soon as it pops. Yes, even that stuff. My all time favorite popcorn ever is called Orville Redenbacher’s Light Movie Theatre Butter. It has about 250 calories for an entire full size bag and a handful of fat grams. This pales in comparison to it’s other more fatty counterparts that average out around 500-700 calories per bag! And this stuff? Totally buttery! Unfortunately, there is only ONE local grocery store nearby that sells the stuff so every time we go, I buy two boxes of it. I can’t even find this stuff on the Internets anywhere. Crazy!

So.. while we were browsing through the gift shop at our resort in Disney World I just happened to find this little gem sitting on the top shelf:

Popcorn Tins

The first thing I did was have a silent heart attack / scream fit. Then I realized I had to find Gene, like, NOW. So I found him in the store and told him I had something absolutely fantastically awesome that he had to come see. So I showed him and he looked at it and asked me if I wanted it. I frowned a little and said of course I’d love to have it but it’s about $30 and I don’t really neeeeeeeeeeeeed it….

And so a few days later at the last minute I ran in there and bought it because I couldn’t imagine my life without it.

We’ve been happy together ever since. The best $30 I’ve ever splurged.

Book Review: Snow Flower & The Secret Fan

I finished Snow Flower & The Secret Fan last night. I think I read at least 150 pages as a total yesterday. I read like a mad woman when the Pest Guy was spraying the house and then I read like crazy for a while after I got home from work as well. I just want to say that this book started off really slow for me. The first 15 pages were really interesting and they lost me around page 16 to 50ish. And then? Oh boy! The story started to pick up and it was all interesting from that point forward. I loved every single moment of it! My imagination ran wild through the entire book and there were definitely parts of the story that almost brought me to tears. I thought it was an excellent read and I would recommend this book to anyone! The book is about two girls who are matched as laotong (old sames) in 19th Century China. The story goes through their difficult lives of growing up in China during these times. It speaks a lot of traditions and the husband / wife role. I thought it was really interesting, heart wrenching and enlightening all at the same time.

No offense but… Seriously?

Groups to pray for lower prices at gas stations

Divine Intervention?: Church Prays at the Pump for Lower Gas Prices

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Two prayer services will be held at St. Louis gas stations to thank God for lower fuel prices and to ask that they continue to drop. Darrell Alexander, Midwest co-chair of the Pray at the Pump movement, says prayer gatherings will be held Monday afternoon and evening at a Mobil station west of downtown St. Louis.

Participants say they plan to buy gas, pray and then sing “We Shall Overcome” with a new verse, “We’ll have lower gas prices.”

An activist from the Washington D.C. area, Rocky Twyman, started the effort, saying if politicians couldn’t lower gas prices, it was time to ask God to intervene.

The group thinks the prayer is helping, saying prices are starting to fall below $4 a gallon.

Article found here. Are you freakin’ serious??? I’m not really religious but I always thought you were supposed to pray to God to help you get through tough times and help give people strength to overcome things. I think it would be different if these people are praying to God, in their CHURCH, not at a GAS STATION to ask for the strength to overcome a difficult financial time. I had no idea that we could ask God for things as if he was Santa Claus. Cause I’ve been wanting a laptop and Gene really needs a new car…

A hot bath and a good book

I’m about to go sink into a very warm tub full of Lush goodies. Last week when I took a bath, I mixed about 3 different types of bubble bath and bath bombs and ended up with some kind of odd skin rash for a couple of days. It never actually showed bumps or anything on my skin but my skin felt like it was itching and burning for two days! It was awful. So tonight I’m going to keep it down to just one product in the tub. Oops!

Lush is my favorite stuff to bathe in. I love their bath bombs, their bubble bars, their bath melts, their solid shampoos and their hair & body gels. Great stuff and I recommend it! It’s pretty pricey so I normally cut their bath bombs into quarters (they’re huge!) and use tiny amounts of their soap or gels. It all goes a long way, trust me! so tonight it’s bath time and then some more reading on Snow Flower & The Secret Fan. So far it is a really good read but a very SLOW one. I’m ready to get through this book!

The last two days have been very Monday-ish and I am so sick of it. I just want to get past this weird phase I’m in right now and move on. I’ve felt like I have been in some sort of third world or daze the last two days and all I feel like doing is sleeping. My patience with people is slim to none and my attitude has not been very nice either. Hoping this bath helps mellow me out!

UPDATE: Ok, my hands were burning after my bath tonight. I used a DIFFERENT bath bomb this time, one I’ve never used before. I’m narrowing it down to the hotel soap I have in the guest bath. It’s Neutrogena brand but maybe there is something in it that is irritating my skin? Is it possible that I’m just going TOO SLOW in the bath tub and soaking for way too long? Ah well.. Gonna go read while Gene pulls all the furniture away from the walls (Pest Control guy is coming tomorrow).

Hit and Run

Today I pulled into the driveway and as I was walking towards the front door, I noticed something laying out in the street in front of Gene’s car. The closer I got, I realized that it looked strangely like the yellow covering that goes over your turn signals on your vehicle. I started to panic and walked much faster and when I got to the road I realized what had happened. Of course, at this point I’m hoping that maybe someone just lost the cover of their car as they were driving by but I knew that was preposterous. So I turned to go around the other side of the car and this is what I find:

Hit & Run

The only word to describe my thoughts is: PISSED. I started checking all the crevices of the car to see where THE NOTE IS. You know what I’m talkin’ about here.. The NOTE THAT YOU LEAVE WHEN YOU HIT SOMEONES CAR BAD ENOUGH TO CAUSE THIS KIND OF DAMAGE. The one that NICE people with COMMON COURTESY would leave. Does GOOD CITIZEN ring any bells here?

So we have no note. No nothing. We called insurance. Since Gene’s car is on it’s 857th life, we can’t really do much. We called the police and they came out to look at it. They asked the lady across the street if she knew anything and then when her husband got home she told him that she thought we suspected it was them. So he rang our doorbell to tell us they didn’t hit us. I tried to explain to him that we in no way suspected them at all. I mean, they are seriously like The Nicest People Ever in The Universe.

Why do these people do stupid stuff like this? They had to have been backing out or driving fast enough to cause METAL TO CHANGE FORM. This does not happen EASILY. You can’t bend metal by backing out of a driveway at 5 miles per hour or less. I am still really enraged. Trying to calm down here! And boy I’ll tell ya, it is not easy to have faith in the human race and people these days in general when stuff like this happens. How do you trust anyone anymore? I honestly just don’t know.

This is the kind of crap we have to deal with as we grow up. Growing up stinks, sometimes!

Sunday Snow Cones

So today Gene and I had great plans to go see Step Brothers before noon. One of the theatres in the city has maintee on weekends before noon and the movies are only $5! Which is a huge discount because I think the evening movies these days cost around $8 or $9. Boy, I still remember when the matinee was like $3.50 back in the day. I miss those days!

So anyway, our plans were foiled when my mom called this morning, inviting us to breakfast with the family at Cracker Barrel. You betcha I nixed the plans of going to the movie because my family doesn’t go out to eat together very often and when they are all going, I drop everything I’m doing and go. She called in the morning and I told Gene when the phone rang that she was probably calling to invite us over for breakfast. How did I know this? Because of two reasons: 1) My mom doesn’t call me before noon on a weekend unless it is to invite us over for breakfast and 2) We had just finished eating our breakfast and Murphy’s Law states that if Gene and I just finish eating breakfast and the phone rings, it is most definitely my mom inviting us over for a ten times yummier breakfast than what we just finished.

So we had a wonderful brunch at Cracker Barrell with my Mom, Dad, Sister & her boyfriend. After brunch we headed to The Walmarts and did our grocery shopping. I wanna say it had been a week or two since we had been and we were running on the bare minimum. Yeah we have plenty of canned vegetables and cans of soup but who wants to eat that for breakfast? Not I! We needed all of the basics like milk, bread, Boca burgers, Lean Cuisine pizzas and apples!

After we left Walmart it was around 3 PM and I’m pretty sure the temperature outside was around 102° to 105°. We stopped at the snow cone hut down the street and picked up an Extra Large half Sugar Free Grape and half Sugar Free Tiger’s Blood with extra gummie bears. It was the perfect combination and oh so delicious! When we got home, the Squirrel I had previously had an encounter with on Saturday morning had reappeared in the front yard and so we watched it for a few minutes and then we both melted into a puddle on the front lawn we ran inside because it was so dadgum hot out there!

Tonight for dinner we had Morning Star veggie burgers, 2% Velveeta Shells & Cheese and Cheesy Garlic SALTY AS HECK Mashed Potatoes. Kinda sorta ruined the mashed potatoes. Oops.

Pops on the historic Route 66

Wall of Soda

This afternoon Gene, Malinda and I headed over to Pops on the historic Route 66 to take some photos and eat some grub. Pops is a new Gas Station / Convenience Store / Restaurant located in Arcadia, OK right off of the historic Route 66. Pops is a good 15-20 minute drive from where I live but totally worth it! I mean, who doesn’t LOVE to sit and stare at colorful walls of soda like the picture above? On any given day Pops stocks around 500 different types of soda. What do you like? Blueberry Cola? Blackberry Cola? Dr. Pepper made with Raw Sugar? Fifty bajillion types of Root Beer? Green Tea Soda? Bawls? Yes, they have it all! And they don’t always stock the same stuff. You may go back and find that your favorite soda is no longer there, but have no fear as they have FIVE HUNDRED other varieties that you are sure to love!

After our two and a half hour visit to this gas station (Yeah, you heard me right, two and a half hours at a gas station! Wanna make somethin’ of it?) we got in the car and drove to the city to go to a flea market. I was so proud of myself for not buying anything as we were almost done but then I ran across a booth where a very sweet old woman was selling all of the doodads and gadgets she’s been holding on to for the last fifty years. And it was amazing! I got myself a few vintage pyrex pieces and I am so stoked about them! I am going to wash them up and I promise to post a photo of them ASAP. I want to go back every weekend now to see if she has anymore Pyrex goodies!

Old Paris Flea Market

Gene and I are just chillin’ around the house for the night. We may watch some Anime episodes and then see what else there is to do. We were going to do our grocery shopping tonight but the Deli is probably closed by now and I hate to make two trips to a store. Think we’ll save the shoppin’ for tomorrow.
