Happy Thanksgiving

Here I am in the wee morning hours of Thanksgiving morning, taking time out of my day to write you guys a little post. I spoil ya, I really do. I peeled, washed and cut up the potatoes for the mashed potatoes this morning. They’re in a pot of water on the stove on low heat. We’ll probably head over to my mom’s house around 10 or 11 this morning. I always like to get there an hour or two before lunch to kind of help get everything ready.

Gene’s brother is Vegetarian and his sister-in-law is Vegan. So we are making Vegan friendly Mashed Tators and Punkin’ Pie and Apple Pie this year. I think she is also whipping up some Vegan gravy and a bean salad. At Mom’s house, we will have Turkey, Smoked Ham, Sausage Stuffing, Broccoli Rice & Cheese Casserole, Vegetable Medley Casserole, Sweet Potatoes, Rolls and some type of Noodles that my mom always buys & makes. It is going to be a HUGE spread. This year we eliminated the Cornflake Potato Casserole & the Green Bean Casserole. I know, it seems so un-American to eliminate Green Bean Casserole but I am actually pretty sick of it. My most favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner (or lunch & dinner, in our case)? My mom’s Sausage Stuffing & the Rolls! She buys some absolutely delish rolls at the store and I can’t even describe how awesome they are! For Dessert we will have Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie, Apple Pie and Vegan Pumpkin Pie. And loooooots of Cool Whip.

I am always very interested to see what everyone’s spread looks like and what their favorite part of it is, so feel free to comment or post yours on your website! I’ll try to remember to take some pictures this year.

Battle of the Archives: Complete

Lynne is the greatest person in the world! Although she gave me some basic instructions, they were exactly what I needed. One, I needed someone to point out that I needed to put the code into the “code” section of the page not the WYSIWYG tab. But most of all, her little tidbit totally sparked some electricity which then caused a bright light bulb to turn on inside my head. I checked a few things and I got the archives working perfectly! Of course, there is an obnoxious “0″ at the bottom of my Archives page that links to the current November archives. I have no idea why that is there but it ALWAYS has been!

I haven’t posted because I’ve had house guests and also because I’ve been ill. I fell ill on Sunday and I was feeling better yesterday but today my stomach has gone back to it’s old ways. It has been very upset and even right now it feels like it is gurgling and churning… almost as if it will never end. Tonight we’re supposed to hit up an Indian buffet place but I’m not sure if it’s going to work out or not.. Time will only tell.. Send good thoughts for my tumtum!

Stupid. Wordpress. Cry. Punch. Sniff.

Things are undergoing some change around here on my webby-page. I am still fighting The Battle Of The Archives. I simply CANNOT get my Archives to work. I want it to list by Month, then list each date underneath with the post title.. and for some reason that has proven to be EXTREMELY difficult for me. I have absolutely no idea why. I wanted to use the fARC plug-in bu again I am having sooo many problems. Generally, I can either figure things out or google my way to the answer but I am really sick of messing with these archives. I have given up on several occasions when trying to figure out what the heck to do.

So I spent the last two hours messing with it and still have come to NO conclusions. It’s frustrating and making my left eye twitch worse than it has all week! Almost worse than WORK, which is pretty darn bad. So now I will take my frozen (Did I mention that it is 39° outside right now? It’s about 42° in the house…) butt to the bathroom and spend the next 45 minutes trying to convince myself that I wont die if I take my clothes off to get in the shower because it’s cold. Really Really Freakin’ Cold.

DVR = Delicious Vagina Revolution?

So I know I mentioned earlier that Gene and I have a DVR now and we are official junkies when it comes to that stupid, stupid machine! I thought I’d talk about a few of the shows we have on series record (hah, look at me, with the DVR-speak, I’m sooooo cool now).

first and foremost would be my new favorite cartoon, My Gym Partner’s A Monkey. I just happened to run across this cartoon one early morning while browsing TV before I headed off to work. I usually don’t stop on morning cartoons because they’re way too innocent for my taste. Well, this cartoon is HILARIOUS! I love it! Actually had Gene schedule it to record for now on so I can keep up with it. I just find it hilarious that the name of the school is Charles Darwin Middle School.

Coming at ya for number 2 would be Family Guy. I don’t talk about my FamGuy obsession much on my website. I think most people who know me “in real life” know about this and its pretty obvious since all I ever seem to do is quote the show and find oddball ways to relate it to real life situations. I can’t really describe my Family Guy obsession in words. I love the show and I don’t know if I’ve ever watched a TV series in my life that makes me laugh as much as this one does. I think it’s Freakin’ Sweet.

Late Night With Conan O’Brien is number three. I love Conan. There was a long time where we didn’t watch it very much because it comes on so late at night. Before we became DVR-Junkies, we were hardly ever able to watch it. I really love Conan and I am seriously thinking of making New York our honeymoon destination just so we can catch a live taping. I really want to be one of the idiots that is screaming above everyone else when he first walks out. I want to be the one he says “Thank you sir” to when said screaming is echoing above The Max Weinberg Seven’s instruments right before the monologue.

Weeds is a new show we’ve started recording. I saw one episode last night that was extremely odd and I loved it. It had a pretty good mixture of humor and drama. The humor is very subtle and dark. I don’t have much to say on this one as I’ve only seen one episode.. But I think I’m going to love it!

Flight of the Conchords… Um… This show may be the death of me. This show may be what causes me to actually pay for an HBO subscription. That is, assuming they have another season. This show has me absolutely falling off of my chair when I watch it and I think I have watched nearly every single video that is on The Tube. You know which Tube I’m talkin’ about people, the one that people flock to like a bunch of crazy ass seagulls. The one that houses the oh so popular Leave Britney Alone video ;) Yes.. that one! Search for Flight of the Conchords on there and watch some videos, it’ll give you a good idea of what the humor is like. I loooove their accents too :) I don’t know if I ever mentioned this before but I do not care much for the British accent. Most people in this country just fall head over heels in love with any one that has a British or Australian accent. I’ve never really understood why but to each their own. But I find the New Zealand accent totally AWESOME! I don’t “fall in love” with it but I do like it and I think it’s awesome. Or maybe It’s just Bret and Jemaine that I like so much!

Well that is all I have time for right now. There is more.. Oh yes there is more!

Bridezilla To Be

I really want to start writing in this thing more regularly. I have this weird thing impounded into my brain that I can’t write in my blog unless I have the time to come up with a well thought out entry and use correct grammar and sentence structure. Which all of these things are pretty laughable considering I hardly ever use correct grammar or sentence structure but for some reason that is the way my head works. All I’m saying is that it is pretty darn sad that I write in my free livejournal about 99% more than I write on my blog that is hosted on the server that I actually pay cold hard cash for. Things need to change!

I really, really need to start working on our wedding. I realized there is only 4-5 months left before we get married and I have absolutely nothing done. I haven’t even tried on a single wedding gown. I haven’t found someone to marry us. I haven’t picked our bridesmaid dresses or tuxedos. I haven’t printed invitations. I haven’t done anything. As soon as our company leaves this next week, I am going to dive head first into the planning and getting things done. As excited as I am about the whole ceremony and sharing it with friends and family.. I am at this stressed-out point where I am almost wishing we could just magically get married one day and be done with it!

I can’t believe I’ll be a married woman in less than 6 months. This seriously blows my mind! That means in less than 6 months I can start begging Gene for babies ;)

Flickr Overload

I uploaded a ton of pictures to my Flickr this evening. This is the first time I’ve sat down at my computer at home for more than 3 seconds. I am so exhausted though so I am probably going to hit the sack very soon. I need to try to get some decent sleep this week and also start getting up early again. Last week I hit snooze every single morning until it was so late that I had to throw some clothes on and run out the door. I’m hoping this week I can get my shit together and get back on track.

I’ll finish labeling and organizing my pictures on my Flickr some other day. I got a decent chunk of them done but I don’t have another hour to sit here and do that anymore. We got our laundry done this weekend and we got our guest bathroom all put back together. All I need to do is get some other cleaning done (bathrooms, floors) and we will be ready for our company this weekend. I didn’t mention that yet but Gene’s brother and sister-in-law are coming from Colorado to stay with us and have Thanksgiving with my family. I’m glad to get to see them again! I hope they don’t mind if my house is a mess…

Malinda is doing better, I think. I still worry about her and I think I always will now. But I trust her and I know she is such a smart, intelligent woman so I know she knows what she needs to do. She is a great person and I really hope she realizes this. Grandma is not doing well at all. They’re calling in hospice and that is never a good thing. We’re going on Saturday for the day to visit her and stuff. I need to get some prints made of the pictures I took this weekend so I can take them up there and add them to the photo album that I made her last weekend. I put about 50 pictures in it when we went up there and I wrote next to them all. I told her I would add to the photo album as I took more pictures. I really can’t describe how my heart feels. It’s a feeling I don’t think I’ve ever felt before. I’ve been pushing a lot of those feelings to the back of my mind so that I can enjoy the here & now this weekend.

Ok time for bed! Have a great week everybody!

BOO!

I really wanted to be a part of NaBloPoMo this year and I remember specifically vowing to myself to do everything that I could to do it this year but it’s amazing how so many crazy things can happen all at once, all at the worst time. Nothing ever really happens when it’s convenient. But I supposed it’s never really convenient for bad things to happen, anyway.

Gene and I had a wonderful time while in northern Illinois. I shopped at Ikea and decided that I wanted to move in there. I think Gene’s whole opinion on the place is that it is WAY too big. I think I lost his attention on our 2nd day there (yes, TWO days!) but it’s totally understandable. Oh and did I mention that I want to buy one of each of their Duvet covers. I LOVE all of the patterns! And they’re cheap! We also got to the Threadless store, finally.  We swore off using Google Maps for anything ever again, at least for a while. I think it only took us an entire day to get to the Threadless store. Of course that’s because Google Maps originally led us to their warehouse/office.

The Friday before we left on vacation we drove up to my Grandma’s house to visit her for the day. She lives about 3 hours away, to give an idea of how far we’re talkin’ here. It’s not THAT far but just far enough to be really tiring. So we drove up there on a Friday to visit her for a day. Then we drove to Illinois, a good 13 hours there and 14 1/2 back. We got a call that she was in the hospital so on Saturday morning we headed up to Joplin, MO to visit her in the hospital. Joplin is about 4 hours from our house, if mom’s driving.

Not much to say about the visit to the hospital other than it was the most emotional I’ve been in a while. I really can’t even explain how much my heart was breaking when I saw her. She looked so bad and so sick and like she had to be in so much pain and so miserable. I pretty much swore to myself that if I am over a certain age, I will NOT go through chemo if I am diagnosed with cancer. I’d rather live a shorter life than live longer and go through that misery. Totally not worth it, in my books.

Last week we had a plumber out to fix some things around the house and also had a Chimney Sweep come out and clean our fireplace. I’ve never used a fireplace in my life so it was quite a new experience. I still have yet to use it, because as soon as they left, the weather warmed up significantly. The best part of the entire experience is that the name of the company we called out is Mary Poppin’s Chimney Sweep and the lady who came out was wearing a black top hat and it was hilarious.

I also have a friend in need. A friend in need of prayers or thoughts or good vibes or whatever it is that you do or believe in. So if you could keep my good friend Malinda and my Grandma in your thoughts or prayers I would really appreciate it. These are two people I care deeply about and am worrying night and day about them. I can’t talk about my friend’s situation as it is quite a private one… Just know that she needs the good vibes right now, really badly.
