Weekend-long birthday celebrations

I didn’t even think about mortgages and down payments and closing costs this weekend. I started my weekend on Friday and I celebrated my birthday every single day!

Friday » Gene and I slept in a little bit. It was the perfect weather to be lazy. Stormy and non-stop raining all day! We went to see the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters around noon and ate sub sandwiches (that we snuck in!) and movie theater popcorn with extra butter. Hilarious movie, I loved it. After that we went to a pet store that is local and played with the puppies in there. This little rat terrier puppy grabbed onto Gene’s hoodie and was humping his arm. Sooo adorable :D Then Gene and I went to Baskin Robbins and ate a Reeses Peanut Butter layered sundae and then shared a Creamy Mango smoothie. All good stuff. Went home and took a 20 minute nap or so and then went to Red Lobster with my family. Oh and somewhere between the movie and the pet store, I went and got my allergy shot. I hate that! Overall a great day. Opened gifts at my mom’s house and then ate Banana cake.

Saturday » Nothing overly special today. Gene and I went to Kohl’s where I got the cutest comforter set EVER. And I got a Family Guy shirt (The one with Bryan in a banana suit, for the FG fans out there!) that is totally awesome. Gene got 2 pairs of shoes. All of this for about $60. We got some good deals :D Some friends (Jacob, Della, Malinda, V, Gene and I) met up at this bar called Hawaiian Dons at around 6:30. I wanted to get there early so we could avoid the cover charge to get in.. They don’t usually start charging that until after 7:30 or 8. This place is known for their cheap, gigantic drinks. They have 60oz drinks for $8. Not bad! We drank too much and had a great time. Lots of laughter and all of that :) V, Gene and I went to IHop after everyone left and ate good food and hung out. I got home and felt pretty ill so I went to bed pretty early.

Sunday » Got up and went to eat Taco Bell for lunch then stopped at Walmart to get a few things we need for the week (bread, lunch meat, pop, etc.). Afterwards we decided to catch a last minute movie with Malinda so we all scrambled down to this super cheap theater ($3.50) to see Blades of Glory (hilarious!). After that we hung out with Kaycee for a little while and then we all went to Fuji Japanese Restaurant for our dinner. Went back to Kaycee’s house and had cake. All pretty good times :)

It was a busy weekend. There wasn’t a whole lot of “down” time and it seemed to fly right by. I wish I didn’t have to go back to real life so soon. Just having to think about mortgages and houses and stuff already makes my head spin. I think my Dad isn’t too keen on us buying a house right now and hasn’t been 100% supportive. I really, really want to buy a house and have something that is ours. Yes it is going to be a bit more of an investment than what we are used to paying right now but I think it would be a GOOD investment. Gene and I have talked about our finances and we both agree that we can afford it, even if it puts us on a tight budget for a little while. I know ultimately it is up to Gene and I because we are adults now and we can make our own decisions but just like any other Daddy’s Girl out there, I want to make my parents proud of me. So yeah that’s my biggest delima and frustration right now. I’ve actually been having nightmares about the house thing and the people involved lately. Kind of starting to freak me out a little! I will feel so much better when we figure out what we are going to do financially and mortgage-wise. Once we know what mortgage company we are going to go with and how we are going to afford the down payment and closing cost, I will feel SO much more at ease. No one ever tells you about these things or prepares you for them, at all.

Who said being a kid was so hard??

Growing up is ten times more difficult! The decisions you have to make. The ones that could affect everything that happens from that point forward. The decisions that you toss and turn over at night. Losing sleep and gaining a few grey hairs. Gene and I have dove head first into mortgages. I’ll admit, we’ve learned a whole lot in the last 5 days about mortgages and some of the confusing terminology that goes with it. However, there is still so much that confuses us and so much that leaves us skeptical. It is quite possibly the most frustrating and stressful thing I’ve ever done!

We have to apply to several different places. Get pre-qualified. Get approved. Then compare the rates we are given along with features (no down payment, closing costs built into loan, etc.) to all of the companies and figure out which is best. In a few sentences, it sure does sound easy as pie. But it’s not. It is no where like a pie. A hot blueberry pie, right out of the oven.  Nothing like that, at all :( It’s actually quite the opposite. It’s more like a burnt blueberry pie right out of the oven. The kind that smokes up the kitchen and sets off your smoke detectors. The kind that you absolutely HATE!

Anyway, moving on from the blueberry pie. I’ve got my bank working on a pre-qualification for me. We got a mortgage place in Tulsa that has prequalified us for what we want. We need to find at least 2 other places that have decent deals so that we can sit down and really see what is going to be best for us. Ultimately we want to pay as little interest as possible in the long run. Unfortunately we have two things standing against us, the fact that we are first time home buyers puts us in a totally different category and the fact that we don’t have 20% to put down. In fact, I’m really trying my best to get out of having to put diddly squat down. We’d love to start saving our money so we can buy that TV that we need so badly. Having no TV in the living room really stinks :(

It took me 10 minutes to write this crap

Gotta type fast.. Family Guy comes on in 10 minutes :D Actually, 9 minutes to be exact. Hurrrry. Ok, so there are some new developments as of late. But before I go into details, I am going to talk about this weekend. Ok so Friday was Gene’s 24th birthday :) We are officially the same age… for 5 more days ;) Then I’ll be his “old lady” again. Hah. He had a pretty good birthday! We had a great Japanese meal homemade by us (Stir-fried Salmon Shyrataki, Onigiri w/Salmon, Miso soup, Edamame and salad w/ginger dressing) and a great dessert consisting of lots of cheesecake. He got some good gifts and I think he had a good time, overall :)

Yesterday we were pretty darn busy all day. We went and looked at a house (to buy) and we fell in love with it. It’s perfect for us and right now the only thing that would hold us back from buying it is not being approved for a mortgage. We got my dad’s birthday gift at Lowes then came home. We got some stuff together to donate (A friend of the owner of the place I work at had her home burn down and did not have insurance to cover it…) and took that over to a friend’s house. After that we went out for a lovely fattening dinner of Chinese buffet! It was excellent.

Today is Easter and my Dad’s birthday. We pretty much hung out at my mom’s house all afternoon. I eventually had to call it a night and head back home because I knew we had laundry to do before tomorrow. Our TV in the living room went out today :( Not too happy about that. Can’t afford one right now. We need to save money because we are wanting an LCD tv for our next one and we wont be buying one of those bad boys for less than $1,000 :/ And hello, did I mention we are planning on buying a home? And did I mention that Gene seriously needs a new car? I don’t think I did :( This is going to be one expensive year:

  • Buy a home
  • Possibly buy Gene a new car
  • $30,000 surgery bill (hopefully insurance will cover most of it…)
  • Buy a TV if we can save enough money
  • Emma’s leg is effed up, gotta take her to the Vet soon

Seriously.. we are not spending ANY extra money for a while. Gotta get some credit cards paid off and all of the things on the list above need to be tended to at some time or another this year. I already told Gene we are going to eat the rest of the food we have in this house because I am not going to move an entire pantry full of food! It’s going to be a stressful year but I am going to try my very best to just enjoy it and not get too uptight about finances. We can only do so much and I keep telling myself that.

Oh and my little sister (16 years old) is going to have her gall bladder out sometime this year too. Family Guy is on.. gotta run.

An Update

I figured it is time for me to post an entry. And what better time to do this than from work where I’m supposed to be working. I mean, I could think of many times in the day when I could be posting but this just seems like the best option.

A couple of new-ish things. Nothing MAJOR really but some things. First of all, I really think Gene and I are looking at April 12, 2008 as our wedding date. When I get the deposit to put down I will know FOR SURE. But I am 98.99% sure that is the date. I mean, who wouldn’t want to get married the day before their birthday!?!?! And a friend of mine is looking at April 13 of next year, which, hello! that’s my birthday. And it’s a Sunday. I’ve never heard of anyone ever getting married on a Sunday before? I don’t know.

Second, we may be moving. I am not sure on this yet but we found out that our landlords are wanting to sell the house we live in. Of course we get first dibs on the house but I really don’t want to buy this house! Gene and I are both wary of buying a home so soon because we feel a home is something you buy and then stay in! Something permanent. Anyway, so we aren’t sure what to do. Some new information came to light today and a co-worker may be interested in buying the house and then renting it to us still. We’ll see. It’s not going to be easy to find a home or apartment that allows 200 pounds worth of dog hangin’ around!

And thirdly, because that isn’t a word at all, I think I lost our offices “Biggest Loser” contest. A coworker and I are really close but I think she beat me by .4% weight loss. We are starting a second phase of it for the next 3 months and I am going to try my hardest to do as good as I can. I’ve gone to the gym about 4 days in a row and have been really working up a sweat. However, we have been doing some weight lifting in with our cardio so I think the reason I am not losing THAT much is because I’m also gaining muscle mass.

My knee is still doing ok! Down to 2 times a week for my therapy. And I’m able to walk fast and jog lightly (for about 45 seconds to a minute at a time) on the treadmill at the gym. I can bend it a lot better and easier now and I don’t have quite as much soreness. Things are definitely looking up in that aspect of things!

That is all that is new with me.. What’s new with you guys???
